Sharewear FAQs

When and where is this event?
The event will take place on Saturday, August 8th, from 9am-4pm at 1524 Jenkins Rd, Wake Forest (Located inside The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints).

Is there any cost to attend Sharewear?

No. Sharewear is a completely free event made possible through the generosity of community donations, dedicated volunteers, and support from local congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints. Everything offered at the event is available at no cost.

Is Sharewear open to everyone?

Absolutely. While Sharewear is hosted by local congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints, the event is truly for everyone

To honor that commitment, we maintain a strict no-discrimination policy. We do not permit discrimination of any kind, including on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or other protected status. Any individual engaging in this behavior will be removed immediately. We believe that every community member should be wholeheartedly welcomed and valued, reaffirming our commitment to a community event where every person is seen, respected, and supported. Sharewear is built on the belief that every person deserves kindness, respect, and a place to belong. Our goal is to serve the entire community with warmth, dignity, and inclusivity.

What is sharewear?

Sharewear began nearly 30 years ago as a simple clothing exchange organized by a women’s group at a local congregation. Over the years, it has gone through several iterations and pauses, but it has steadily grown far beyond its humble beginnings. What started as moms swapping children’s clothes has become a large annual community event, now serving more than 500 people and collecting over 10,000 pounds of donated clothing each year.

In 2025, attendees came from across Wake, Durham, Granville, Vance, Franklin, Nash, and Johnston counties, some driving more than an hour to participate. After the event, excess donations were distributed to eight homeless outreach programs and nonprofits throughout the region, supporting communities in Franklin, Nash, Wake, Johnston, Harnett, and Durham counties.

Do I need to sign up?

No. Sharewear is first‑come, first‑served, and no registration is required. Many attendees choose to line up about an hour before the event begins, but you’re welcome to arrive whenever works best for you. We’ll have plenty of donations available throughout the entire event, so there will be something for everyone.

What kinds of items will be available?

Each year we receive a wide variety of donations, including clothing in all ages and sizes, linens, toys, books, school supplies, household goods, food, and more. The selection changes based on what the community donates, but there is always a large assortment for individuals and families.

Can I bring my own bags?

Yes. We encourage attendees to bring reusable bags, laundry baskets, or anything that makes it easier to carry items. Bringing your own bags helps the event run more smoothly and ensures you can comfortably take home what you need. We will also have volunteers available to help load any heavy bags or items for those who need assistance.

Is there a limit on how much I can take?

To be fair to others and to honor the generosity of those who donated, we ask that you take what you need while being mindful of the rest of the community. Our goal is to ensure that everyone who attends is able to find something helpful. This event is designed for community members in need and not a place for resellers to pick name brands.

Can I donate items?

Yes. We gladly accept gently used clothing, linens, toys, books, school supplies, household goods, food, and similar items. To ensure safety and quality, we cannot accept damaged or soiled items, medications, open or expired food, adult items, or drug paraphernalia.

Donation Drop‑Off Times: Friday, August 7th 8am-1pm and 3pm-8pm. If you need to donate outside these hours, please email sydney@goodsfeathersmarketsandevents.com to arrange a drop‑off or pick‑up.

Are the items new or used?

Because Sharewear is donation‑based, many items are gently used, but you can also find brand-new items each year. All donations are checked to ensure they are clean, safe, and in good condition.

Is there parking available?

Yes. With over 220 free parking spots and more than a dozen disabled parking spaces, you should have no trouble finding a place to park. All lots surrounding the building will be open for attendees.

Is the event accessible?

Yes. We have wheelchair‑accessible disabled parking stalls, accessible entrances, and accessible restrooms. Our goal is to ensure that everyone can participate comfortably, safely, and with dignity.

Can I volunteer?

Absolutely! Volunteers are the heart of this event. If you’d like to help, we’d love to have you. People in our community genuinely enjoy pitching in, and there are roles for all ages and abilities. We’ve shared the volunteer sign‑up link in a separate post, so be sure to check that out. You can choose the shifts and responsibilities that work best for you. Once you’re registered, you’ll receive any training you might need before the event. Youth and adults who need volunteer hours for school, clubs, or service requirements can have their hours verified and signed off on site.

What should I expect when I arrive?

When you arrive, parking attendants will guide you to an available spot. As you enter, you’ll find a map of the event and friendly greeters ready to help point you in the right direction. We’ve also shared a detailed event map in another post so you can preview where everything is located.

Volunteers will be available throughout the day and throughout the building to assist with anything you need.

Can children attend?
Absolutely! We love seeing families come together and meeting the people we serve. Please note that no childcare services are available, so children will need to stay with their parents or guardians throughout the event.

What happens to leftover donations?

After the event, excess donations are distributed to verified homeless outreach programs and nonprofits throughout the region. These contributions support organizations serving communities in Wake, Franklin, Johnston, Harnett, Durham, and Nash counties, as well as surrounding areas.

Is there a time limit for shopping?

The event runs from 9am-4pm, and you’re welcome to stay as long as you’d like. We love meeting everyone and hearing your stories throughout the day.

Do I need to bring ID or proof of income?

No, you do not need to bring ID, proof of income, or any documentation. This event is open to everyone with no requirements. Our goal is simply to serve and support our community, no questions asked
